Editor’s note
Reviewers describe very different experiences at Chrysalis The Brow Haven in Jurong West, and several recent reviewers raised serious concerns about how treatments were sold. Multiple customers say they were drawn in by a promotional eyebrow offer and then felt pressed into more expensive premium embroidery, with one reviewer noting that a half-finished brow could not be reversed. Staff names such as Wendy come up in these accounts, and one reviewer was unhappy that a staff member could not explain how the premium treatment differed from the regular one.
On the positive side, one recent reviewer praised the welcoming and professional staff and a therapist who took time to understand skin concerns and recommend a suitable treatment. Another reviewer felt the facial and brow package offered good value and noticed visible improvement in fine lines and pores. Customers who want to know more about pricing, touch-up terms or the specific treatments involved should ask for everything in writing before agreeing to anything.

“Awful place, do not patronise! Scammed my grandmother of $2,000. See D Ling’s review.”

“Mum was at Jurong Point, and Chrysalis had a road show to do eyebrows. Mum ended up paying s$2,330+ for their supposed premium eyebrow do. When I called up to find out how they justified the charge, they started talking about 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D eyebrow dunno what. When I asked further what level 'D' was the Premium treatment, they launched into what they claimed is their latest technology, and again, no details as to what that 'latest technology' was about. I then asked how different the Premium treatment was from their 'normal' or regular ones (which starts at s$500+, and much higher than other places), again, the staff was unable to enlighten me. This was a representative or face of Chrysalis and she cdn't explain?! I then asked to speak to another staff, and preferably someone who cd converse in English instead of Mandarin, and was told that none was available. Really?! And, Mum only speaks English and Malay with limited understanding of Mandarin. When I asked about the 'permanency' of the Premium Eyebrow treatment, I was told it can last for 3 years. I am going to monitor that! Or, is this another case of their loose and baseless claims? I had also asked if the s$2,330+ amount paid was for a package, and was informed, NO, only for a one-time treatment plus a touch-up. *Gasp* Then, I asked about the touch up. For this, which they inform can be anytime within 3 years, there will be additional charges. *Big Gasp*. I asked Mum whether this was informed to her, Mum said there was nothing of that sort told to her. And, the staff had mentioned that they were transparent to Mum, and that she should have been informed of that. Really?! Their being unable to justify and explain their charges, and the tactic used to get Mum hooked in to their treatment made me think of the scam calls I had received which preyed on insecurities, and then provided 'the' solution, for which you have to be out of pocket. Everyone should be wary of Chrysalis' eyebrow sales tactics. Dnt fall prey, esp if you have elderlies in your family. I would let you readers know that Mum's eyebrow sure didn't look like it had undergone a s$2,330+ touch. Ouch!!!! Note: I am not a competitor of any brow establishment and no ugly motivation for this review (as might be suggested by some) except to honestly share my mother's experience as a customer.”

“AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST! I wish to raise a complaint on GLOW SKIN PTE LTD (Chrysalis Brow) @ Jurong Point for misleading customers with their promotional offer of $188. On 29 April, I went for an eyebrow trimming at the shop. After the service, the salesperson by the name of Wendy started to introduce me to the promotional offer of eyebrow embroidery @ $188 + 1 free touch up session. Because of this promo, I decided to sign up and give the free session to my husband to try. Wendy also mentioned that we can consume the two sessions for us to try, as we have never done eyebrow embroidery before. Because of her sales pitch, we decided to proceed to purchase the package, which we thought was only $188 with no hidden costs. Wendy also confirmed there is no hidden cost involved. We booked a slot on 1 May 2023. On 1 May 2023, my husband was the first to go for the session while I was waiting beside him. Wendy applied numbing cream on both of our eyebrows and was told to wait for 30 minutes. Shortly after 30 minutes, she proceeded to draw a sample of how the actual brow will look on both sides of my husband's brow. Then, she went ahead to do a "premium embroidery" on his left brow without any further explanation. Shortly after, she took out a booklet and start explaining that this premium cost him $2300; however, due to the Labor Day promo, he only has to pay 50% which is $1154. To our horror, a $188 promo for 2 became a $1154 session for 1 pax and there is no turning back as she has already done the left brow and cannot reverse back to the original. I rebuked that it was supposed to be a $188 session, why did she go ahead to do something without our consent, leaving us with no choice but to pay the package, which we didn't intend to sign up for? My husband did ask Wendy to go ahead with the promo of $188 instead, but she deliberately drew a very ugly and artifical brow on my husband and told him this is what he will be getting for the $188 promo. FYI, this isn't what we were told during my payment of the $188 session. We were told that this will be a Korean embroidery brow that looks natural. To us, the $188 is actually a gimmick to lure innocent customers into their scams!. After the session, my husband paid for the $1154 (offsetting the $188), making the total payment $951. Wendy then told my husband that he had to come back for a touch-up session after 1 month for another $788! This time, my husband didn't fall for it and just paid and went off, feeling cheated. This type of sales tactics is unscrupulous and not only tainted the industry but also made consumers lose confidence, even though a genuine brow salon would provide such a promotion again.”

“Usually when you visit a brow salon, the staff would show the embroidery styles, with pictures and prices, to inform the customers what will they be expecting. The staff will inform the customer that they will show the “strokes like” embroidery on one side for the customers to see the difference before deciding to go ahead with the “basic drawn” type of embroidery – if not, if the customers do not like the “basic drawn” embroidery and want to change back to the “strokes like”, the staff are not able to reverse. Of course, we would love the strokes-like embroidery as they look very natural. They will also try their best to upsell their facial with their brow services together with unlimited touch up sessions blah blah blah. I signed up their facial and brow package as I find that it is really value for money. 2K for 10 sessions of facial, One year umlimited touch up sessions and 6D eyebrow embroidery. As my regular facial also costs me 2K to 3K, I find their roadshow deal is really value for money... 2K got facial and get my beautiful brows done at the same time. WOW! Fantastic.. Some think it is force sales but to me, I think it is value for money killing 2 birds with 1 stones and their facial is very good. I can see the improvement in my fine lines and pores. My skin looks more refreshed and smoother. If you go for facials and can afford it why not. Highly recommended!”
