“This was my first time trying a haircut at De Arte Hair Studio @ Hillion Mall, so I was a little nervous and unsure about who would be styling my hair, especially since I specifically requested a bob haircut. Fortunately, I met Sean, and I was very impressed with his professionalism and skills. A well-executed bob haircut requires great patience, precision, and careful, step-by-step cutting, and Sean did exactly that. Not everyone can achieve such a beautiful and well-balanced bob. “I had an extremely disappointing experience. The haircut and wash-and-blow-dry cost me $65, so I expected the haircut to be done carefully and professionally. Unfortunately, the result looked like something I could have gotten at a $20 neighbourhood salon. I specifically asked for a layered haircut and even showed the hairstylist a video of the style I wanted before he started cutting. This is the result I received, and it is completely different from what I asked for. He did mention that my hair was quite thin, but he never clearly explained that the hairstyle I showed him might not be suitable for my hair or that he would have to change the style significantly. He only mentioned it briefly and then proceeded to cut my hair without properly discussing what he was going to do. His was also not friendly The overall shape is technically still a “layer,” but it is not the type of layered haircut I wanted at all. I specifically wanted the ends to be tapered and pointed, whereas he cut the ends blunt and rounded, which makes the hairstyle look very old-fashioned and unflattering. I don’t want to focus on the price, because I willingly paid $65 for the service. My concern is that if the hairstylist could not achieve the style I requested, he should have explained this clearly before cutting my hair and discussed an alternative with me. Instead, he did not communicate this properly and simply proceeded with a completely different haircut. At the beginning, he also asked whether I usually tied my hair up. I told him that I rarely tie my hair. In the end, he cut a very thick section of fringe and explained that when I tied my hair up, this section would fall naturally and look better ?!! However, I had already told him twice that I wanted a layered haircut and that I had never had my hair cut in such a blunt shape before. Despite this, he did not ask whether I wanted the haircut adjusted or offer to refine the shape. He simply finished cutting, walked back to the counter and waited for me to pay. I have spent a long time growing my hair out specifically because I wanted to have it cut into the style I had in mind. I am honestly not upset about the money. What I am most disappointed about is losing the hair that I had spent so much time growing, only to end up with a result that is completely different from what I asked for. If paying $65 results in a haircut like this, honestly, I feel like I would have been better off getting a $20–30 haircut elsewhere. I hope the salon can take this feedback seriously. The main issue is not the price — it is the lack of communication, the failure to clarify what could and could not be achieved, and the fact that the final haircut was significantly different from what I had clearly requested.”
